Anilao, Iloilo – In light of the recent event concerning slain OFW Joanna Demafelis of Sara Iloilo, the Municipality of Ajuy conducted a forum and organizational development for their OFW and family constituents on February 23, 2018 at the Liga ng mga Barangay Hall.

The event aimed to create awareness to OFW families and LGU and Barangay Officials of the effects of migration as well as the various existing government programs and services to OFWs.

The event was graced by OWWA Region 6 representatives, PESO Iloilo Province, and Atikha Coordinator and was attended by former OFWs and family members of active OFWs as well as Anilao Barangay captains and LGU officials.

The forum centered on OWWA programs and services, PESO Province’s Migration and Development Initiative thrusts, and Effects of Migration.

Capping the event, Anilao Vice Mayor Matet Debuque shared some insights on OFW conditions and advised the organizer to come up with Anilao OFW database as working baseline for the proposed Anilao OFW and Family Organization.

The activity was organized by PESO Anilao headed by PESO Manager Annalee Flores-Walker in partnership with Anilao Liga ng mga Barangay.
