Two municipalities in 1st District of Iloilo were assisted by the MDI Iloilo to empower their migrants as they organized OFWs and their families in a bid to provide better support and services.
Oton conducted an orientation on the Implementation of Republic Act 10022 for their OFWs and OCWs on June 24, 2017 followed by the election of officers at the town’s covered gym. Oton is home to 3,585 migrants, the highest in Iloilo Province, according to OWWA 6.
Meanwhile, Igbaras gathered over 300 OFW family members on July 8, 2017 during their OFW & Families Assembly and Orientation. The event was led by Mayor Vicente E. Escorpion, Jr. along with Sangguniang Bayan members who were in full support.
The organization of OFWs in Iloilo is part of the effort of the Migration and Development Initiative of the province to ensure support and coordination to migrants.
